The Yacht Part 1

The Purchase

I bought a 1994 Carver Motor Yacht (CPMY390) in January 2020. It was 40 feet of beauty and had belonged to my veterinarians son. We were like family so I knew it was a good purchase. There were minimal problems. The starboard engine was running rich, which meant it needed a carburetor adjustment. The port side engine had a seized pulley on the water pump. Another minor issue. The cherry wood was pristine and the boat was in good shape overall. Unfortunately, the canvas enclosures had not been taken down when 2018 Hurricane Florence came to town so the dash and seats on the flybridge had suffered wear from being exposed to the elements. The pets and moved aboard in February after signing the dock lease and getting the boat detailed inside and out. I was excited about moving onto the boat. The boat was backed into the dock, making it easy to board. All I had to do was walk onto the oversize swim platform and into the spacious cockpit. The cockpit had a little shower hose tucked away for easy clean up. The cockpit made for a secure place to hang out with my dog and also to fish. From the cockpit, one could either go up the ladder to the bridge deck. From the bridge deck, a set of steps led to the flybridge where the command center is located.

A sliding glass door opened into the aft cabin which featured a large full head with a big shower. Just outside the aft cabin, was the salon. The salon was a nice space with a couch and dinette, which doubled as an office. Large windows provided fun and sun for the cats. They enjoyed watching the big birds fly over. A nice bar provided them a place to lounge under the windows. Never mind my stuff up there. HA! Below the bar, was the galley. A medium sized refrigerator, single basin sink, and electric stove lined the area, along with ample storage. Another head, was just off the galley. The galley opened into the forward cabin, which had a nice hatch to look out of when bedding down for the night. I liked to look at the moon and stars above me. Storage was plentiful throughout the boat and I was able to give most everything a place.
